Maggie Lisseman's journey to outstanding
Wed 02 Mar 2022Congratulations to Maggie Lisseman of Great Witley CE Primary School who won the Support Staff of the Year award and was chosen as the overall winner in the Worcestershire Education Awards 2022.
Maggie was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Education Award due to her tireless efforts and dedication to her school.
Maggie has worked at the school for over 25 years, and in that time she has held a multitude of positions.
Maggie’s association with Great Witley CE Primary school started in September 1977 when following the closure of Shelsley Beauchamp CE Primary School she moved to Great Witley.
Maggie’s parents and their siblings had attend Great Witley and her great uncles are on the War Memorial Board in the school hall.
A few years later Maggie’s children attended Great Witley and it was at this point that she started working as a TA in year 1. A few years later when the caretaker retired Maggie took on another role as cleaner in charge and also as a lunchtime supervisor. When the school introduced Forest School Maggie found her niche added a new role to become the Forest School TA. More recently, during lockdown Maggie supported the cleaning at another Rivers school and also works at Witley Wrap. During her time at Great Witley Maggie has worked for 4 different head’s, worked with numerous staff and supported hundreds of children.

Tue 01 Mar 2022The Rivers Teaching Alliance, School Direct Programme offers a school-centred route to teaching. Trainee teachers learn day to day in the classroom alongside experienced teachers.
The Rivers Teaching Alliance has offered teacher training since 2016. Since then, 89 trainees have completed training with us and we have recruited 22 trainee teachers from the programme to join the Rivers family.
Our School Direct programme provides school experience and placement to support a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) with QTS awarded by the University of Worcester.
Applications for full-time training starting September 2022 is now open. We encourage all applications to be in by end of June.
Applications for part-time training starting January 2023 (lasting 18 months) will open soon.

England Hockey Star and Teaching Assistant
Tue 01 Mar 2022Keen hockey player and Teaching Assistant, Julie Hall, who works at Cherry Orchard Primary School, has again been selected to represent England Masters Hockey.
Julie made her England debut in August 2021 playing in an invitational event, scoring a goal against Wales in her opening match. Trials are held annually for places and after five intense rounds of selection, she has been successfully selected for this year’s 18 player squad.
The England squad is now looking forward to the upcoming fixtures, including the Home Nations Tournament in June and the Hockey Masters World Cup, currently scheduled to be played in Cape Town, South Africa.
After being rescheduled from October 2020 due to Covid, Julie is excited to play in the tournament "I just want the opportunity to play for England, it is such an honour to wear that top, a dream I never thought would come true. I just need to keep fit and stay injury-free!"

Worcestershire Education Award Winners 2022
Tue 01 Mar 2022Congratulations to Maggie Lisseman, of Great Witley CE Primary School, who won Support Staff of the Year and was chosen as the overall winner of the Worcestershire Education Awards 2022, to win Outstanding Contribution to Education.
Maggie was chosen due to her tireless efforts and over 25 years of dedication to her school. Read more about Maggie's career at Great Witley.
The virtual awards, held on Thursday 24th February was hosted by Matthew Burton, of the documentary Educating Yorkshire and featured many celebrities, such as Olympic runner Sir Mo Farah, actor Ralf Little and comedian Jason Manford.
There were a number of Rivers staff nominated and recognised as finalists in the awards.
