How did you get into it?

After leaving school, I did a carpentry course although it wasn't fulfilling enough.

Someone suggested an apprenticeship as an opportunity to learn more than one trade and gain on-the-job training.

What does the role include?

The role includes carpentry, plumbing, decorating and cleaning along with a focus on health and safety and compliance.

All schools are different and each has its own challenges and environment, which provides a lot of variety in the day-to-day work.

What do you enjoy about the role?

The variety of work, meeting the different people in schools and knowing that my role makes a difference to children’s education, as it is my job to make sure the school is safe, secure and maintained to a high standard – providing a positive environment for them to learn.
