Great Witley CofE Primary School is on the cusp of ‘Outstanding’ in the latest Ofsted inspection
Great Witley CofE Primary School has once again demonstrated its commitment to providing excellent education after a recent Ofsted inspection reaffirmed the school's 'good' status.
Although there has been no change to this school’s overall judgement the report stated that the inspection grade might be outstanding if a graded inspection had been carried out. Therefore, the school's next Ofsted visit will be a graded inspection and is expected within the next 1 or 2 years.
The school's delightful environment, excellent teachers, and exemplary pupil behaviour stood out during the inspection on 14 and 15 May 2024.
In the inspection report, pupils' behaviour is described as “exemplary”, with respect and politeness being the norm in interactions.
The report acknowledged the school's dedication to mental health, through initiatives like the mental health champions, play leaders, and house captains, which contribute to a supportive and family-oriented atmosphere. This culture of 'courageous advocacy' ensures that pupils' voices are heard and valued, making Great Witley CofE Primary School not just a place of learning but a place where young minds are empowered to be the best versions of themselves.
The Ofsted report highlights the school as a beacon of excellence:
- The curriculum is carefully designed, and the teachers' expertise ensures that “pupils achieve exceptionally well across the curriculum.”
- “The school prioritises reading” and “as a result, pupils learn to read fluently.”
- Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) receive prompt and appropriate support. “This quick response to pupils’ needs makes sure that all pupils achieve highly.”
- “Pupils show great joy in their learning” and “are eager to learn more.” The school fosters a nurturing environment for its reception children, who demonstrate a “zest for learning. This, coupled with the well-considered early years curriculum, provides a very secure foundation for their next steps.”
The report notably cited, “excellent” teachers and leaders who ensure “the school is very well-led”. The leadership team has a good understanding of the school and provides diverse experiences for the pupils. Teachers serve as “excellent role models for pupils” setting high expectations and nurturing an environment for pupils to excel academically and socially.
Headteacher, Kate Ramsey proudly commented: “We are all absolutely thrilled with this judgement that recognises the fantastic education being delivered at Great Witley. We have an amazing team of committed professionals, the most supportive families and more importantly, we have a fantastic group of children who work hard and are great ambassadors of our school. We could not do any of this without them! This Ofsted judgement is a testament to the collective effort of everyone involved”.
The school is proudly part of The Rivers CofE Multi Academy Trust, a group of 16 primary and nursery schools in Worcestershire, Dudley and Sandwell. The trust’s 'STARS' values are lived out daily by both pupils and staff, fostering a community where everyone is empowered to make a difference and flourish.
The report stated “The trust provides appropriate levels of support and challenge. This helps to make sure that the school flourishes.”
The Rivers CofE Multi Academy Trust CEO, Matt Meckin, commented “ Great Witley is a brilliant school with an even brighter future on the horizon. We are proud of the way that pupils respond to the excellent, holistic education that leaders and staff provide.”
