Celebrations at Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School
Parents, Children and Staff at Heronswood are celebrating after being awarded the very well-deserved overall ‘GOOD’ judgement from OFSTED. In particular the school are exceptionally proud of being awarded OUTSTANDING in two areas. Firstly in Leadership and Management and secondly in Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare. This is the first Ofsted visit since the school converted to an academy in October 2014, where Heronswood joined with The Rivers CofE Multi Academy Trust.
Mrs Pierpoint, Head Teacher said, “We are very proud of this report and all the hard work, dedication and commitment from our team of staff who have made it possible. We know our children receive an excellent education at Heronswood but to have it verified by the Ofsted team who visited us, is the icing on the cake. We will now continue to strive for Outstanding across all areas.”
Mrs Hayes, the Lead Inspector reported that, “Current senior leaders have energetically and systematically transformed the school’s culture. Pupils and staff alike are proud to be associated with the school. It is a happy, interesting and worthwhile place to be.”
Parents are equally proud of this fantastic school. They shared with the inspectors, “This is the best the school has ever been,” and were keen to communicate that staff “go above and beyond to support their children.”
Mrs Round, a Year 6 parent said, “The improvements at Heronswood Primary School have exceeded all my expectations. Heronswood is a school that I'm proud to send my daughter to. The teachers go above and beyond what's expected of them and provide a happy, positive learning environment, where children thrive. The Ofsted rating of 'good' is definitely well deserved and a result of incredible hard work and commitment.”
The detailed report acknowledges the many strengths the school has with a specific reference to the curriculum. “The curriculum is highly successful in achieving its aims. These include: inspiring a love of learning; giving pupils key skills for life; nurturing pupils’ ability to reflect, and their resilience and perseverance; and embedding empathy, understanding and respect for others. Varied and interesting experiences are underpinned by a strong focus on developing pupils’ basic skills and personal qualities. In-school lessons are well supplemented by worthwhile visits and out-of-school activities. As a result, pupils become confident learners who are well prepared for the opportunities and responsibilities they will face in the future.”
Mrs Broome, a parent of a Year 3 and Year 6 child said, “The teachers are devoted to ensuring that this school can achieve anything. It is evident that this is a bright school that has an even brighter future. It is a happy school with enthusiastic children and tenacious teachers. The teachers show perseverance and dedication and this is obvious throughout the school. This school is a fantastic school with cheerful, happy children.”
