Our music curriculum is designed to inspire a love of music while developing pupils as confident performers, composers and listeners.
Pupils build their musical knowledge and skills carefully from the early years through to Year 6, beginning with singing, rhythm and simple exploration of sound, and developing into increasingly confident musicians who can perform, compose and evaluate music with accuracy and expression.
We ensure children experience a broad and diverse curriculum, learning to listen to and appraise music from different cultures and historical periods, while also understanding how music has changed over time and the influence of significant composers and musicians.
Through regular opportunities to sing, play instruments, improvise and compose, pupils learn key musical concepts such as rhythm, pitch and notation, and apply these with increasing independence.
By the time they leave us, children are musically literate, creative and confident, with a clear appreciation of music’s role in culture and the wider world and the skills to continue their musical journey beyond primary school.
