Our history curriculum is designed to help pupils love learning about the past and understand how it has shaped the world they live in today.
We aim to develop children as curious, thoughtful and informed learners who investigate and interpret historical events, people and civilisations using a wide range of sources.
Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils build a secure understanding of chronology, enabling them to see how societies have changed over time and how key innovations have driven change and progress. Children learn to think critically by exploring different interpretations of the past, recognising bias, and using evidence to justify their views.
History at Rivers also encourages pupils to reflect on equality, legacy and justice, helping them to understand the impact of past civilisations and individuals on modern society and to consider the legacy they themselves will leave as future history‑makers and responsible global citizens.
