Volunteering as an advocate is a rewarding opportunity to support school governance and enhance the educational experience for our pupils. By joining us, you become part of a dedicated community committed to providing an extraordinary education.

Why become an advocate?

As an advocate, your role in school governance is crucial. You will help drive school improvement and ensure our pupils receive the highest quality education. This volunteer opportunity allows you to impact the lives of pupils and the broader community significantly.

Who can become a school advocate?

If you are 18 or older and not a current employee, you can become an advocate. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds to reflect the diversity and richness of our schools. No prior experience or formal training is required - just a passion for making a difference. We provide induction and safeguarding training, and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Advocacy roles & responsibilities

• Headteacher Advocate (x1 per school) To ensure the Headteacher is supported, listened to and challenged.
• Pupil Experience Advocate (minimum of x 2 per school)
  To ensure pupils are heard, feel safe and are successful learners.
• Community Advocate (minimum of x2 per school)
  To foster positive engagement between the school and its key stakeholders.
• Christian Distinctiveness Advocate (minimum of x2 per school - for Church schools only) To ensure Christian values are central to the school’s ethos.

What does being an advocate involve?

You will visit the school, meet with the community, and discuss your findings with school leaders. The commitment includes three school visits per year, one or two follow-up meetings each term, and an annual governance day.
