Empowering Educators and Pupils Through Musical Innovation

This year, eight of our schools have taken part in an exciting music teacher development project designed to bring new skills, confidence, and creative energy into the classroom. Funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation’s Teacher Development Fund and delivered in partnership with Severn Arts, the project has offered teachers and pupils the chance to work with three talented professional musicians, each bringing their own distinctive style.

    Inspiring Musical Expression

Ollie introduced teachers and pupils to the vibrant world of body percussion, using rhythm and movement to unlock musical expression without the need for instruments. Danny brought the dynamic art of rap, helping children channel their thoughts and stories into powerful lyrics and beats. Meanwhile, Matt inspired classes with spoken word, encouraging creative language and performance skills that have captivated children and teachers alike.

    Music Sparks Confidence and Creativity

Pupils have thoroughly enjoyed the workshops, discovering new ways to express themselves and build confidence. Importantly, teachers have not only learnt new musical techniques but have also found ways to weave these creative approaches into other areas of the curriculum. Many have reported significant growth in their own confidence and teaching skills, using music as a powerful tool to enhance learning across subjects.

We are looking forward to seeing how the project develops further next year, offering further opportunities for teachers to develop, collaborate, and inspire their pupils through music.

We’re thrilled to see the positive impact so far and look forward to sharing more updates as this musical journey continues!
