  • Bishop of Worcester opens new play areas at Cutnall Green CofE Primary School

Cutnall Green CofE Primary School welcomed the Right Reverend Hugh Nelson, Bishop of Worcester, to officially open new play areas for Early Years and Years 1–6.

The new play areas both include wooden climbing equipment and sheltered dens for outdoor reading.

The official opening began with Kerry Postans, Director of Education at The Rivers CofE Academy Trust, welcoming Bishop Nelson and guests, including Father Tim, James Homer (local parishes), Nick Wright (The Elmley Trust) and members of the Cutnall Green PTA.

Mrs Postans thanked The Elmley Trust and the Cutnall Green CofE School PTA for helping to fund the project, saying it “will benefit our children for many years to come”. She also thanked local parish members for their support and for the “strong relationship between the school and the wider community.”

Year 6 pupils read out prayers they had written, before Father Tim introduced Bishop Nelson.

The Bishop spoke to pupils about what God means to them and encouraged them to find joy in reading, learning and play, adding: “I hope pupils find joy in God as they play in their new playground."

He then cut a ribbon to open the new playground. Pupils demonstrated the play equipment and Father Tim even had a go on the monkey bars. Mr Wright and Mr Homer also tried out the new Early Years play area.

One pupil said: “I love the new play area, especially the monkey bars. It’s made us stronger.”

Assistant Headteacher, Mr Pates, said: “Outdoor play is an important part of school life, and this project has transformed our grounds. The equipment has improved children’s physical development and increased their confidence when taking on new challenges.”
