Trainee Insights

Trainees on our PGCE hub-based (previously school-direct) programme come from diverse career backgrounds and various undergraduate degrees before deciding to train as teachers.

Whether they have come straight from completing a degree or worked in industry for some years, they all have one thing in common - a passion for inspiring the next generation of learners.

Teaching Assistant to Teacher: Motivation to teach

Jordan B TeacherMeet Jordan, a trainee on the Rivers Teaching Alliance PGCE with QTS hub-based initial teacher training. He was inspired to train to teach by 'incredible teachers and practitioners'.

Previous career:
I have worked in various educational settings over the last 9 years, ranging from early years to primary, secondary, and special schools, which have given me a wealth of experience and allowed me to decide where I wanted to go with my teaching career. I completed my degree through the Open University over 3 years, achieving a BA (Hons) Education Studies (Primary) degree, which I'm immensely proud of.

Motivation to train to teach:
I knew for a long time that I wanted to go into teaching and, after many years working as a TA, I felt ready to begin my training. I've been very lucky to work with some incredible teachers and practitioners, many of whom have inspired and encouraged me to be where I am today.

Why a school-based PGCE?
For me, it was a no-brainer. Being immersed in the classroom from day one and becoming part of the teaching team truly gives you a real idea of life as a teacher and I knew that for me, personally, it was the best route.

Why train with Rivers?
Having relocated from Devon, I contacted The University of Worcester, which pointed me in the direction of Rivers as an option for my teacher training. Meeting the team and visiting the schools, I felt welcome and invested in and knew that Rivers would fully support me on my teaching journey.
