Welcome - New Director of Inclusion

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Sally Philpotts as the new Director of Inclusion, starting in September.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Sally Philpotts as the new Director of Inclusion, starting in September.

With over 18 years of experience in education and a distinguished track record of championing inclusive practices, Sally brings a wealth of expertise, passion, and strategic insight to this vital role.

Sally initially trained as a Secondary PE teacher and worked as a School Sports Coordinator across a cluster of primary schools. Sally’s career has been defined by a deep commitment to supporting and empowering both staff and pupils, which has seen her succeed in a range of curriculum and pastoral leadership roles.

Before joining us, Sally held trust leadership positions as a Director of SEND and a Director of Inclusion within a large multi-academy trust in the Black Country. Her extensive experience leading SEND across twelve schools in three local authorities, combined with her training in SEND law, has given her a deep understanding of both local and national SEND landscapes. Her expertise has enabled her to mentor and support SEND leaders regionally and nationally, extending her impact well beyond her own trust.

Sally’s approach to inclusion is grounded in developing a holistic understanding of each pupil. She recognises that true educational progress is only possible when a child’s academic, emotional, social, and physical needs are met. She views Safeguarding, Attendance, Behaviour and SEND not as separate strands, but as interconnected elements that shape a pupil’s experience and success in school.

A firm believer in the power of professional networks, Sally has co-authored a forthcoming publication on joint working between education and health services.

Sally’s success is underpinned by her ability to identify and address barriers to education - ensuring that inclusion is not just a policy, but a lived reality.  Her unwavering advocacy for vulnerable pupils has driven significant improvements in outcomes, which have been noted by Ofsted at multiple inspections.

Sally Philpotts commented on her appointment:
"I am honoured to take on the role of Director of Inclusion. Inclusion is not a standalone initiative; it is the foundation of a thriving community. I am passionate about creating environments where every child feels seen, valued, and supported, and where staff are empowered to lead with confidence and compassion. I look forward to working across the trust to ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to flourish."

Sally’s appointment marks a significant step forward in our mission to deliver extraordinary education for every pupil, and we are excited to welcome her to the Rivers family.
