    Staying Safe Online

The internet is such an integral part of children's lives these days. It opens up so many educational and social opportunities, giving them access to, quite literally, a world of information and experiences.

Whether on a computer at school, a laptop at home, a games console or mobile phone, children and young people are increasingly accessing the internet whenever they can and wherever they are.

As you would protect your child in the real world, you will want to make sure that they are safe, whatever they are doing. Like learning to cross the road, online safety skills are skills for life. If your child understands the risks and can make sensible and informed choices online, they can get the most from the internet and stay safe whilst doing so – particularly from those people who might seek them out to harm them.

If you are concerned about any aspect of online safety and your child, please don’t hesitate to discuss this with a member of staff at school.

    Parental controls

Jamf Parent is an app that allows you to manage your children’s school-issued devices outside school hours (16:00 – 7:00 on weekdays and throughout the weekend). App features:

    • Set custom rules using an easy step-by-step wizard.
    • View a child's device details, including name, storage usage, model, and iOS version.
    • Manage multiple children's devices effortlessly.

This tool is integral to our broader strategy for supporting parents and carers in ensuring their children's safety online.

Watch the video below for a detailed guide on setting up Jamf Parent.

    Keeping children safe in school

We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any online safety incidents are recorded and managed.

Our Computing and PSHE/RSE curriculum is based on the Education for a Connected World guidance as well as the guidance from the Department of Education on Teaching online safety in schools. It enables the development of teaching and learning as well as guidance to support children and young people to live knowledgeably, responsibly and safely in a digital world. It focusses specifically on eight different aspects of online education.

    Keeping children safe at home

When online, there are huge benefits for children and young people to learn new things, get help with homework, express themselves creatively and connect with friends and family. By understanding and taking some small steps, you can help keep your child safe online. Follow ABC:

    • A: Applications - Utilise privacy controls to "lock down" your child's account and prevent applications from openly detailing your child's location e.g. Snapchat.
    • B: Block Adult Content - Use features offered by your internet service provider or browser to prevent access to websites hosting adult content.
    • C: Communicate -Talk early and often with your children about their online activities.
