Worcester Food Rescue
Wed 07 Dec 2022Rivers staff have volunteered to support Worcester Food Rescue with surplus food collections from Tesco supermarkets in Worcester.
Volunteering for the scheme was initiated by Rivers Trustee Carl Nichols. Carl is an existing volunteer for Worcester Food Rescue and is the Stakeholder Engagement Lead for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and was Head of WRAP Cymru which delivers programmes in Wales to significantly reduce waste and maximise recycling.
Launched in April 2017, Worcester Food Rescue is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to diverting end-of-shelf life, but still safe-to-eat, food products from landfill.
Volunteers collect Surplus food from supermarkets and distributed it to various good causes such as homeless support charities, food banks and local hospices.
Surplus food becomes available when the supermarket store systems say that it can no longer be sold. Surplus food is either perfectly good but excess to projected requirements in-store OR is just passing its Best Before Date. It is still perfectly safe and good to eat.

BEST BEFORE
These dates refer to quality rather than food safety. Foods with a 'best before' date should be safe to eat after the 'best before' date, but they may no longer be at their best.USE BY
These dates refer to safety. Food can be eaten up to the end of this date but not after even if it looks and smells fine. Always follow the storage instructions on packs.
DISPLAY UNTIL & SELL BY
You can ignore these dates as they are for shop staff not for shoppers.

Wychbold celebrates Ofsted outcome
Fri 02 Dec 2022Congratulations to everyone at Wychbold First and Nursery School for continuing to be a ‘Good’ school.
The school received a Section 8 inspection over 2 days in October, to check whether the school continues to be ‘Good’ and whether safeguarding is effective.
The Ofsted inspector was particularly impressed with the behaviour of the children, the wider curriculum and the way in which children’s safety is paramount to all staff.
The report began by acknowledging our STARS values and how these were at the heart of the school. ‘Pupils know and understand why these values are important in life. One pupil explained, ‘STARS is about sharing thoughts and ideas and having respect for each other.’
The school has recently gone through a period of change with Rebecca Wilks being appointed as the Head of the School. The ‘Good’ outcome is a testament to the hard work, commitment and dedication of all the staff and pupils and the collaborative support of the trust family.
Rebecca Wilks, Head of School said “I am excited about continuing on this journey and driving the school forward”.
