Why is this course needed?
It provides learners with the knowledge to identify suspected mental health conditions as well as covering the effects of drugs and alcohol and the first aid for mental health action plan.
Aims:
- Know what mental health is, why people develop mental health conditions and the role of the first aider for mental health.
- Know how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a mental health condition.
- Know how to recognise and manage stress.
- Know how to recognise a range of mental health conditions.
- Understand the impact of substance abuse on mental health.
- Understand the first aid action plan for mental health and be able to put it in place.
- Know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the work place.
- Providing advice and starting a conversation.

Why is this course needed?
It provides a complete overview of various mental health conditions and characteristics. Identifying factors that can affect a person’s mental health, tackling the stigma surrounding mental health and describes the support and therapies provided by professional healthcare services.

- Know what mental health is, why people develop mental health conditions and the role of the first aider for mental health.
- Identify a large range of mental health conditions and know how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a mental health condition.
- Understand the impact of substance abuse on mental health.
- Understand the first aid action plan for mental health and be able to put it in place.
- Understand a range of mental health disorders and the support/therapy provided by professional health care providers.

This course is aimed at those within a supervisor/manager level role within the workplace, as the designated first aider for mental health.
